MONTHLY MEETINGS
The regular meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month
at 7:00 p.m. in the Potato Creek Nature Center, North Liberty, Indiana. Bring
a snack to share and enjoy a program and some fellowship with other Friends
members.

10:00 a.m. SPRING HOUSE DEDICATION & OPEN HOUSE
Learn of this historic spring house as we dedicate and tour this newly restored
structure. Park at Porter Rea Cemetery and follow the signs. It is about 3/8
mile from parking lot on trail 4.

Butter Making ($1)- Learn about butter and make some to take home.

Sassafras Bead Bracelets ($1)- Create a cool bracelet from a tree!
*Note: Material costs are per craft supply s which may be purchased in the Potato
Creek Nature Center on Saturday August 7th. There will be limited supply of
some craft materials.

Laney Honey will be on hand to demonstrate honey techniques & varieties
7:00 pm –"The Northern Hoosier Hearth" presented by Angela
Quinn
Join us for a look at northern Indiana's culture and food traditions, from the
1830s-1950s. This family-friendly program will look at cooking implements, garden
and farming practices, groceries and markets, and recipes used by early Indiana
residents, in the days before cereal came in a box or milk arrived in cartons.
Meet: Nature Center
Tim Cordell will show items recovered from the spring house area and explain how these artifacts have helped tell the story of how the area was used.

‘TATER TRADITIONS - This in depth program will focus on the cultural traditions
of the past at Potato Creek. Activity topics will include farmstead and park
development. $1-$5 Craft fee for materials. No advance registration required.
Number of participants will be limited.

NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY WEEKEND
Celebrate nature this weekend by capturing it in snapshot. Discover new techniques
and perspectives to help improve your outdoor photos as you explore the beauty
of the park.
September 18, 2010 until winter
PRAIRIE MAZE OPENS - Wander through the 1.5 miles of trails cut in the 7 foot
tall restored prairie grasses and try to unravel the mystery of the maze.
October 2-3, 2010
PRAIRIE HARVEST WEEKEND – A delightful weekend full of events centered
around the harvest. Activities will include a prescribed fire demonstration,
crafts and scarecrow building contest. Number of participants will be limited
in the workshops. Fees will range from $1 to $10 for the various crafts and
workshops.
October 2, 2010
TAKE A KID MOUNTAIN BIKING DAY - Bring the kids and introduce them to mountain
biking at this special event. Their will be a kids time trial at 11AM as well
as biking safety and techniques activities.
October 3, 2010
MOUNTAIN BIKE TIME TRIALS - Come race against the clock on this 6.6 mile trail.
Helmets required. There will be different skill classes, from beginner to expert
elite. This will be the NIMBA time trial season finale and awards event. Registration
fee is $20 with the first heat at 10 AM.

HALLOWEEN HAPPENINGS – The campground will bustle with Halloween events
this weekend. There will be pumpkin carving, a costume contest, campsite decoration
contest, trick or treating (for campers only), a potluck dinner and more! This
weekend will be co-sponsored by the Friends of Potato Creek. $1-$5 Craft &
event fees
